Impressive 5th largest stadium in Span, even for TV viewer like me looks amazing. Built 1916 but renovated in 1950 and in 1973, and latest renovations took place in 2007 and 2019 . 3 games of 1982 FIFA World cup were played on that venue. Construction of the brand new stadium started in 2007 but has never finished. Valencia together with Sevilla FC and Real Betis are few teams of La Liga big 3 which I have a great pleasure following and watching their game especially in cross-matches between the big 3 and those mentioned above. Mixed feelings, to be fair about camera angles TV experience with this one. Check bellow detailed grading and final FICAZ INDEX score.
Camera Angle and Zoom
Exact average camera angle. 25 points. Not so bad but it could be better since stadium is huge and putting camera for one tear higher should not be a problem for those guys. In terms of zooming, we can say Mr. “Salvador Salva Martín” has been doing bellow average job. 2 points only. Hardcore zooming in the middle of the field when is clearly visible on the screenshot above he doesn’t need to do that, because camera is far enough for more wide pitch view.
Calculation:
Camera angle score for Valencia CF – Mestalla Stadium = 25 points
Zoom score for Valencia CF – Mestalla Stadium = 2 points
Zoom top (far side)
Far top zooming is a little better than expected, just about in the middle of the maximum score for this criteria. 4 points. So Mr “Salva” does not push the zoom so hard as I’ve expected since center zoom is way bellow average. Solid score. It could be better for that enormous stadium, but it is what it is. We need to complain relentlessly and directly to he club to fix it and change it for the better.
Calculation:
Camera Zoom FAR side for Valencia CF – Mestalla Stadium = 4 points
Zoom bottom (near side)
Finally one criteria where Mr “Salva” did good job not zooming too much and the result is pretty good. You can see all 20 players in frame and lots of green left , and on the top. So here we have a full perspective of the game and of a possibility of a long pass. 6 points for this aspect of TV coverage at Massala stadium.
Calculation:
Camera Zoom NEAR side for Valencia CF – Mestalla Stadium = 6 points
Zoom Corners
Here on the screenshot you can see far side corner which is good. Very good, Near side is even better but by combining result of those 2 corners calculation we awarded 6 points here from possible maximum of 8 points for corner zooming. We can see almost completely full penalty box and a little outside in case of outside bounce shot from lay back players. Well done.
Calculation:
Camera Zoom CORNERS for Valencia CF – Mestalla Stadium = 6 points
Extra points
La Liga is in terms of using tech in TV broadcasting is in my opinion ahead of all the other leagues. We have on every game LS (LiveScore) 360 camera replay (not bad feature), we have augmented reality lineup before the game (very cool. See the screen-cap on the left), we have augmented reality corner shots options (box, short or out of box cross) and we have (in today’s Covid-19 world) augmented reality of the crowd plus on top of that we have also Covid related artificial crowd noise since the most stadiums are completely empty. Without all that it would be a dull TV coverage. Because of all that, although camera angle is not high enough, I am giving it 3 points for HREN bonus. No floating camera, so for that part still zero.
Calculation:
Extra points (max. 16 points) = 3 points
